From kitchen to garden! Transform old pots into flower-filled planters!

Welcome!

I invite you to my story about renovating old cast iron pots that have found new life as beautiful garden planters.

While organizing my old items, I came across some old cast iron pots that I decided to refurbish and transform into unique garden planters. Over time, I enjoyed this activity so much that I started buying old cast iron pots at flea markets. I paint each one in the same style: red with a white rim at the top. Currently, I have around 15 such planters and am constantly looking for more opportunities to purchase beautiful, old pots that I can transform into stylish planters.

In this post, I will present step by step how to renovate and convert a cast iron pot into an elegant garden planter.

Transforming a Cast Iron Pot into a Planter: Step by Step

Cleaning the Pot

  • First, I cleaned the pot with a wire brush to remove rust and dirt.
  • I carefully sanded all the nooks and crannies to achieve a smooth surface.

Degreasing

  • After cleaning, I degreased the pot with a nitro solvent.
  • I made sure that the pot was completely clean and degreased before painting.

Painting with Red Paint

  • I prepared the red paint. This time, I used a spray method, which is faster when dealing with a larger number of pots.
  • Alternatively, you can use a brush, as I did before with individual pots.
  • I applied the first coat of paint and allowed it to dry thoroughly.
  • I applied a second coat of paint to achieve even coverage and an intense color.

Painting the Rim with White Paint

  • I used a brush to apply white paint to the top rim of the pot.
  • I applied the first coat and waited for the paint to dry.
  • I applied a second coat of white paint to achieve a perfect finish.

Planting Flowers

  • At the bottom of the pot, I drilled a single hole to ensure drainage.
  • After the paint had completely dried, I filled the pot with soil and planted my favorite flowers.

Drill the holes slowly and carefully because cast iron pots can crack!

Renovating old cast iron pots and transforming them into stylish planters is not only a way to give a second life to forgotten items, but also a great opportunity to add unique character to your garden.

I hope that my tips and experiences will inspire you to embark on your own renovation projects. Don’t be afraid to experiment and enjoy the creative process – the results can be truly amazing!
